Former Chairman for the NPP in Fomena; Akwasi Nti

Ashanti regional New Patriotic Party (NPP) chairman; Bernard Antwi Boasiako has been accused of sponsoring some independent candidates against incumbents of his own party within the region during the 2020 elections.

Former New Patriotic Party (NPP) Chairman for Fomena; Mr. Akwasi Nti who made the allegation on Monday, November 22 in an interview stated more than four NPP MPs in the Ashanti region were victims of this action.

“If Wontumi is honest, he should tell us how and why an independent candidate contested Joseph Osei-Wusu in Bekwai Constituency. He won’t tell you. Ask him about Benito’s Constituency, Isaac Asiamah of Atwima Mponua, Patricia Appiagyei of Asokwa, MANSO Adubea and Kumawu Constituencies. We all witnessed what happened at Kumawu” he said and concluded that the regional Chairman sponsored these independents against the MPs. He also stressed that the deed was also not done in the interest of the party in any way but rather for the selfish interests of the Chairman.

“Wontumi doesn’t care about putting the party on the line to satisfy his selfish interest. I know him very well and so I know exactly what I’m talking about” he said.

When queried by the host why the leader of a party who is supposed to garner votes will sponsor others against his own people, Mr Nti stated that the regional chairman will risk everything to please his ego.

“You’ve no idea what Wontumi can do. That man is a crook. He wouldn’t mind risking everything for the downfall of another. He’s a pathological liar too. See, he can lie to make everyone hate you. You people don’t know!” he alleged.

As the elections approached, the President; Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo stated emphatically that he wouldn’t work with any party member who defies party rules to contest as independent.

This however, according to Chairman Akwasi Nti did not deter the regional chairman from going ahead to pursue his agenda.

Meanwhile, Chairman Wontumi’s popularity continues to dwindle as the NPP gets ready to elect new regional executives.
