Ghana Fashion News-A young graduate of Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, Millicent Safo-Adu, is giving a boost to the Ghanaian fashion industry with her company, MG VOGUE which specializes in making Ghana-made footwears, Bags and various fashion accessories.

The graduate with background in Integrated Rural Arts and Industry (IRAI) who started her business while in school says she realized that most fashion products are imported into the country and as a result, she decided to use her expertise in setting up her own business to provide a viable alternative in order to boost the Ghanaian fashion space.

‘’Knowing that most of these products are imported into the country and it is really affecting our finances (economy) directly and indirectly. So, knowing that we can do something on our own from our own country, that is what we are doing; capitalizing on it and making our products,’’ she stated.

Millicent says her business, MG VOGUE has been very lucrative and seeks to reach a wider audience. She added that her products are durable as compared to other products imported into the country. In an exclusive interview with Edward Oppong Marfo, she indicated that she is seeking to employ more persons to work with and export some products as well.

As part of her efforts to reach out to more Ghanaians and international clients, Millicent together with her application software developers are designing an app to aid in marketing of her products. She says she wants to use technology to expand her business market. She explains that she is taking advantage of trainings being organized by Kumasi Hive, British Council and Department of Communication Design at KNUST to use technology on augmented reality in reaching out to more clients and increasing visibility of products using an application software.

‘’Looking at the rate our generation is going, technology is really essential and with my product, it is not well known. A lot of people don’t know about it. Even the materials I use are not really common so most of the times when customers come around and they want to know what exactly they want, you would have to struggle showing them pictures. Some don’t even trust the system because in our case, you go online, you order, it comes and it is something so different. So this augmented reality training is giving you an opportunity to create an app and the app will help you have an ‘interaction’ with the product you want to product you want to buy. I came to take advantage of it because I don’t just want my customers to just see pictures but I want it to get to a level where they can have the app on their phone, zoom in with pictures and interact with the exact material they want to know the sizes. They can even get to a level where they can use the app to have the material as though it was on them. I believe it is going to help my market because it will give the people the confidence because they will really know what they are buying,’’ She explained.

She further added that what makes her business unique is that, her customers have the luxury of ordering for customized products and can even make special arrangements for particular products to be designed for them alone.
