How I wish health workers will be humble enough to go through the system we have created for patients to use when they visit the hospital…our perspective would have changed!

We think we know the system but we don’t! We created it for people but not ourselves. ..most nurses, doctors and other medical/paramedical staff have their own folders with them, when they are unwell they carry it, register, that’s if they feel like doing so and go straight past everyone to their consultant who is their friend and that settles it, when your mum is going on admission you call a friend at the OPD to sort things out, you call another to get you a bed and within minutes it is done, so you think all is well….how wrong and ignorant you’re!

I’m one of those who is very reluctant to ever pull the protocol card when I go to seek service at the Hospital, cos I understand everyone there is in pain and want to get things done as speedily as they could, so I rarely am in the mood to introduce myself to expedite things, much to the annoyance of the wife.

The way you struggle to navigate the hospital system, the way some of your own colleagues treat you simply because they don’t know you, you feel so disappointed, not for yourself but for the plight of the ordinary patient. Some girl tells you to drop your card and sit your ass down as she is doing her video call papabi, if you’re a man with testicle dare ask another question and you’ll see your level in life.

Charley we are not gods oo, we are humans with blood, our position of taking care of people who are sick and weak should not make us feel invincible, cos we are not…after all wetin. Let’s improve our systems! And remember when you apply your makeup and go to the hsopital as a staff, the patient is the only reason you’re going there, and that patient is the reason you earn your salary. You ain’t doing them a favour, they are doing you a favour by giving you a job that puts food on your table…you pupu after all, so be humble.

Yours truly,
James Mawuli Gawu.
