Bishop Joel Thomas

Ghana Religion News-Patrons of the first session of the Leaders that last conference at the House of Faith Ministries Worldwide already cannot control their joy for the opportunity to be part of the conference.

For most of the patrons, even though they do not doubt the competency of the host, Rev Alfred Nyamekye to put together a solid team, there was still some anxiety going into the conference.

“You know that feeling of what should I expect. When you have so much expectations that it turns into anxiety”. A patron told this journalist.

Speaking on the topic ‘Timing in your season’, Bishop Joel Thomas from the United Kingdom noted that most pastors and church leaders failed to last because they failed the test of timing.

He noted that even in a season, there is a specific timing and ‘the moment you miss the timing, failure is inevitable’.

Adapting from Bruce Tuchman’s Dynamics Model, Bishop Thomas pointed that every leaders has four main areas to go through in his leadership life:

The Forming stage where the leader brings combines parts to create new goals, the Storming stage where they face challenges and the realities of implementing goals, the Norming period where the leader learns to be resilient in progressing his goals and the Performing period the seed of hardwork and faithfulness begin to yield good fruits.

The British born Jamaican preacher was however sad that many young leaders do not want to go through the Storming period as they want everything to be rosy in the ministry life.

“We have served our spiritual fathers and mentors for many years, driving them around, carrying their bibles and doing all sorts of things for them, and it is through those services that they laid hands on us and blessed us, that’s part of why we are where we are today”. He noted.

In Ministry he noted, there is time for weeping which is not supposed to last, and a time for joy which is lasting but the changes in situation depend on ‘Knowing who and whose you really are’.

As if that was not enough the second speaker who is the Greater Accra Regional Head of the House of Faith Ministires Worldwide Rev. Dr. Nana Ohene Acheampong is leaders that last must be leaders that endure.

According to him, Enduring leaders are the people God uses raise lasting churches and ministries.

Speaking on the topic ‘The Journey of an Enduring Leader’, Rev Dr. Acheampong taught that these crop of leaders are not necessarily famous but faithful to God.

“These are the leaders who know their boundaries, not so connected to the human powers that be but are potent in the hands of God”. He stressed.

The remaining four days promise to be very powerful and informative as more speakers are lined up to speak to the enthusiastic church leaders who want to last in the sands of time.

The Conference host Rev Alfred Nyamekye in his opening remarks noted that a lot had been spent on the conference because he and his colleagues ‘want to raise leaders who will do greater things than we have done in Ministry’.
