Activities of illegal chainsaw operators inside the mpameso forest reserve

Mpameso Forest reserve within the Dormaa forest District is besieged by illegal chainsaw operators.

Five illegal chainsaw operators were arrested last week by the forestry commission. Eleven illegal operators who were arrested earlier are currently being tried.

The five suspects are Yaw Yeboah (operator), Atsu Kwadwo (operator),  Jojo Frimpa (operator), Obeng Desmond (operator boy) and Samuel.

District Forest Manager for the Dormaa Ahenkro; Nifaasoyir Chrisantus revealed to rawgist.com that twelve chainsaws and a shotgun were retrieved from the five suspects.

He reveals that about 50 trees; mainly wawa, red species and Mansonia have been illegally logged; a situation he describes as disturbing.

He called passionately on the Police to speed up their processes so that people arrested are tried and justice served.

Nifaasoyir Chrisantus hinted the personnel of the Ghana Armed Forces are helping them despite their staffing challenges.

He called on all to rise up and help fight the menace of illegal logging that is threatening the forest reserve especially since there are dire consequences for the entire population if the environment gets depleted.
