Ghana News-The Head of Breast Care International (BCI), Dr Mrs Beatrice Wiafe Addai has asked Christians to shelve the mindset that breast cancer is demonic.

Though the cause of the disease is yet to be known, the cancer surgeon intimated it is something treatable when it is detected early.

Addressing church members at the Mamaso Seventh Day Adventist (SDA) in Nkawkaw before screening them for diabetes, cervical cancer, hypertension and others, Dr Wiafe urged Christians to learn about the symptoms of the breast cancer disease.

This, she stressed will help them to notice any unusual occurrence when they appear so they can access treatment early at the hospital.

‘’There is no truth that breast cancer is a demonic disease so I urge that you report any usual signs or symptoms you find in your breasts so you get early treatment’’, Dr Wiafe passionately stressed.

SIMPLE DIAGNOSIS:

Educating the church about the need to examine the breasts, Dr Wiafe Addai said the best way of checking to avoid the disease is by daily examination of the breasts.

This, she noted is by devising a simple strategy by holding the head with one hand while the other hand smoothly massages the breasts.

Dr Addai also asked that women who are married to allow their husbands to periodically examine their breasts when they lie in bed.

These measures, the cancer surgeon noted help to properly access the state of the breast.

‘’It is important as Christian women we do away with shyness by examining our breasts and if we are married we also allow our husbands to play with our breasts as we carefully gauge if there will be unusual occurrences so we can seek help from the right people’’, Dr Addai educated.

ORGANIZER:

Speaking to this reporter, Mrs. Christiana Agyenim-Boateng, Women’s Ministries Director for the Southern Ghana Union Conference of the SDA commended BCI and the Peace and Love Hospitals for the medical screening exercise.

She also thanked the BCI leader for carefully educating the women about the breast cancer disease and the available therapies.

Mrs Boateng conceded that many in the Christian faith ascribe diseases such as breast cancer and the likes to the workings of demons and evil forces.

She therefore tasked the church to open its doors to medical experts so that they could get education about treatable and curable diseases affecting the populace.

‘’We as a church are grateful for the insight we have gained into the breast cancer disease and the treatment therapies available as has been taught us by Dr Wiafe Addai and we implore other churches to open up so they could benefit from same’’, the Women’s leader posited.
