The MTN Ghana Foundation has again brought smiles to the faces of Ghanaians as it handed over a 6-unit classroom block with a headteacher’s office, staff room and staff bungalow to the Nhyiaeso Basic school on Thursday.

The project which cost some GHC 500, 000. 00 to put up will serve as a befitting replacement for a dilapidated structure that housed over 400 pupils at the school.

Ag. General Manager for Northern Business District of MTN, Mr Sam Koranteng said the MTN Ghana Foundation embarked on the project because of the value they place on the development of a rich and skilled human resources necessary for the growth of the nation.

“For about twelve years now, the MTN Ghana Foundation has been instrumental in supporting national development efforts through a conscious investment in the areas of Education, Health and Economic Empowerment. Over USD 15,207,874.19 has been invested in about 149 projects across the country out of which 85 are education projects” he revealed.

He also called for a thorough maintenance plan to ensure that the facility stands the test of time.

Mr. Sam Koranteng also used the opportunity to advise Ghanaians to adhere to the COVID-19 protocols in order to avoid contracting the dreaded pandemic.

District Director of Education for Asante Akyem North, Madam Mildred Ama Kwakye Agyapong, commended MTN Foundation for the massive project.

She was excited that the staff and pupils would now have a congenial atmosphere to carry out teaching and learning.

The Director tasked the headmaster to ensure the facility is put into the intended use whiles maintaining it for future generations.

Madam Agyapong commended Multi-media journalist, Ohemeng Tawiah for highlighting the plight of the school, an act she noted attracted MTN to help out.

Nana Brantuo Asadu, Agogo-manhene Oguakro Nkonwahene conveyed the appreciation of the Chiefs and people of Nhyiaeso to MTN.

He announced that the Chief of Mponua, a community within the District has decided to provide 100 acres of land free of charge to MTN to commence any project of their choice on same.

Nana Kwasi Wusu, Chief of Nhyiaeso praised MTN, multimedia and all persons who played part in helping the town to get such modern facility for teaching and learning in the town.

Also present at the occasion was MP for Asante Akyem North Constituency Hon Andy Appiah Kubi and District Chief Executive; Francis Oti-Boateng

The project was taken up by the MTN Ghana Foundation following a Joy News Agenda report in July 2017 by Ohemeng Tawiah; a journalist who works with the Multimedia group. The report highlighted the poor state of the school’s existing structures.
