Mr Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, a flag-bearer hopeful for the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) has urged party faithful to change the face of the party as it prepares for the upcoming general election in 2020.

According to the veteran legislator, the NDC risks staying out of power for the next 16 years if they keep faith with personalities whose character has been tainted with corruption.

Speaking to party faithful and sympathizers in the Ashanti Region at the Kumasi offices and hostel of the Trades Union Congress (TUC) in Nhyiaeso, a suburb of the Kumasi Metropolis, Mr Bagbin asked party members to elect taintless characters at all levels of the party as the impending internal primaries draw closer.

This, he noted will be the first step of convincing Ghanaians that the NDC has cleaned its house and are ready to recapture power in 2020.

CREDENTIALS:
Mr Bagin asked that rather than experimenting with any other aspiring flag-bearer before the 2020 elections party members stick and vote for him who has an impeccable character and political record.

According to him, he has never been corrupt nor put himself in any conflict of interest position that can pin him down as a corrupt person.

Good character traits like sincerity, incorruptibility and integrity, the Nadwoli-Kaleo Member of Parliament (MP) claimed are attributes he is presenting to the party faithful in the upcoming flag-bearer race.

Having worked with the party since 1992 and even before that time, the second deputy speaker in parliament noted his fair appreciation of party work and members who have since sacrificed for the party.

This, he noted was the bane of the party since the former leadership did not know nor recognize party people who had worked tirelessly to ensure the party remained a solid front.

ASHANTI REGIONAL CHAIRMAN:
Mr Yaw Obimpeh, Ashanti Regional Chairman of the NDC responding on behalf of the NDC branch expressed his delight at the opportunity to listen to the flag-bearer hopeful.

He, however, tasked the aspirant to own up to his words of ensuring that long serving party members are taken proper care of when he is elected as the party’s flag-bearer later in the year.

Chairman Obimpeh also urged him to conduct himself in sincere and honest manner as the campaign wears on.

The NDC, the regional chairman claimed had difficulty in getting their former leaders to listen to advice as those surrounding them often blocked them from having opportunity to convey same.

This he noted accounted for the party’s abysmal performance in the 2016 polls across the country, urging Mr Bagin to be a good listener.
