Former Ashanti regional Youth Organizer of the NDC; Yaw Brogya Genfi insists government should take total blame for the ongoing Menzgold debacle.

He says it is government that interrupted and disrupted the processes of Menzgold.

“If government was minded to protect the investment of customers, that would not have been the approach. The approach would have been what they did that resulted in the Consolidated Bank being born” he said to Bernard Buachi of www.ghanagong.com and www.rawgist.com in an interview.

Yaw Brogya Genfi is convinced the government did not give the customers of Menzgold a thought when they decided to collapse it.

“Government could have had some arrangement with some other investment banks to take the deposits but what did the government do? They just said; don’t deal with Menzgold.”

He also accused the government of being hypocritical in the handling of the Menzgold victims saying “How can they pay DKM victims but fail to help Menzgold customers. I can’t understand that” he said, insisting that the Menzgold situation is bigger than DKM, Pyram and R5.

He says Nana Appiah Mensah; the owner of Menzgold is a known associate of the President and had official endorsement from the Presidency. “The President traveled on business trips with him. Even the lawyers of Nana Appiah Mensah are NPP people; people who are related to the President by blood”, he said and took a swipe at the Finance Minister for saying that Menzgold investors were greedy.

The young politician/activist accuses the Finance minister of deliberately trying to take total control of the investment banking arena.
