Officials of MTN-Ghana and their counterparts from the National Board for Small Scale Industries (NBSSI) have handed over some start up equipment to some trainees in Ampabame in the Ejisu-Municipality.

Numbering about 40, the beneficiaries had undertaken a one week intensive training on soap and detergent making in Ampabame.

The initiative, a collaborative effort by both NBSSI and MTN was aimed to empower this group made up of young nursing mothers and young men who had shown interest in soap making.

The NBSSI, through to its Regional Director, Manu Bashir had undertaken some feasibility studies in the Ampabame town and decided to support this group with incentives to undergo training in soap making.

CHARGE:

At a brief ceremony at the precincts of the Ghana Baptist Church at Ampabame, Mr Bashir urged the beneficiaries to use the items and equipment for the intended purposes.

He noted the trade they had learnt will help them eke a living for themselves and families if they remain focused at it.

On his part, Mr Steve Asare, MTN-Northern Business District executive in charge of Mobile Money Services expressed delight in the enthusiasm the beneficiaries had shown in soap making.

He urged them to remain focused on what they want to do and use the skills they have learnt to empower themselves and their families.

BENEFICIARIES:

Angelina Dufie, a beneficiary of the project thanked the benefactors for the training and urged them to replicate same for others in the other communities in the Ejisu Municipality.

The training, she noted had empowered her and colleagues to use soap making as a trade or profession.

Displaying some detergents she had come up with from the training she got from the NBSSI officers, Madam Dufie noted her delight to be able to put into practice what she had learnt.

She promised to teach her colleagues who may show interest in learning a trade or skill as well as sell the detergents she had made to clinics, hostels and companies in the Ejisu community

‘’ I am grateful to MTN and NBSSI for empowering us and I believe with what we have learnt we can be on our own and work to make a living out of our trade’’, the young lady noted
