
Prosper Douglas Kweku Bani is a distinguished Ghanaian public servant, security strategist, and international development professional with decades of experience in governance, peace-building, and crisis management at both national and international levels. He currently serves as National Security Advisor to the President of Ghana, where he provides strategic direction, policy advice, and coordination across the country’s security and intelligence institutions in response to evolving internal and external threats.
Mr. Bani, a native of Kpando in the Volta region of Ghana, has previously held several senior government positions, including Chief of Staff to the President and Minister for the Interior, during which he oversaw internal security, law enforcement agencies, border management, and public safety. In these roles, he played a key part in strengthening institutional coordination, democratic oversight, and national stability.
Before his return to high-level national service, Mr. Bani built a notable international career with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), working across Africa, Europe, and Central Asia. His work focused on conflict prevention, post-conflict recovery, peace-building, and governance reform, where he provided leadership on programmes addressing political instability, humanitarian crises, and security sector challenges.
He holds advanced academic qualifications in political science, development studies, and comparative politics from leading universities in Ghana, Europe, and the United States. Widely respected for his strategic insight, calm leadership style, and deep understanding of security governance, Mr. Bani brings a rare blend of international experience and domestic policy expertise to Ghana’s national security leadership.
